On IKEA India’s Big Day, This Post Sums Up Just Why It’s So Welcome

IKEA in India is not even a day old – it opened the doors of its Hyderabad store just a few hours ago – but it is already receiving a lot of love on social media. Amongst the many people who took to social media to welcome the hugely popular Swedish furniture retailer in India is television host Mini Mathur. In a post, shared on Instagram about one hour ago, Mini Mathur spoke about her love for IKEA’s furniture and other products.

“This is not a promotion,” she prefaced her post with a disclaimer, before talking about the many reasons she loves IKEA. “For two decades #IKEA has been my go to store for stocking up on household supplies- pans, pots, glasses, candle stands, tea lights, napkins, tin can openers…” wrote the self-confessed “home improvement freak.”

“What always took me back is not just the quality or durability that IKEA stocks but the simple but aesthetic designs at THAT price,” she wrote.

She also recounted how her love affair with IKEA began when she was just starting out as a VJ. “I still remember @mariagorettiz and I madly carrying tables, chairs and stools all packed into efficient cartons back from Dubai after an event…”

“It gave @kabirkhankk and me, fun days of goofing together, assembling beds and chairs, tightening the screws, reading instructions when we were setting up our home…” added Mini Mathur, tagging her husband, filmmaker Kabir Khan.

Mini Mathur ended her post by praising IKEA’s affordability. “Beauty does NOT need a huge price tag and I welcome the fact that everyone in my country has access to that opportunity as well,” she wrote.

Disclaimer: This is not a promotion. This is just to extend a warm welcome to @ikea.india as it opens its doors in my country. For two decades #IKEA has been my go to store for stocking up on household supplies- pans, pots, glasses, candle stands, tea lights, napkins, tin can openers .. heck even towels, lamps, photo frames & potted plants. Being a home improvement freak, every travel itinerary had Ikea on its last day. What always took me back is not just the quality or durability that Ikea stocks but the simple but aesthetic designs at THAT price. As an MTV VJ.. when I was starting out in my career.. I still remember @mariagorettiz and I madly carrying tables, chairs and stools all packed into efficient cartons back from Dubai after an event because that was STILL more affordable and more beautiful than what I would get back home here. It gave @kabirkhankk and me , fun days of goofing together, assembling beds and chairs, tightening the screws, reading instructions when we were setting up our home … moments that are rare to come by now that we have the “means” not to do “self help” furniture. All in all .. just wanted to say that Ikea has been a beautiful part of my life in my first decade of setting up home and it still lingers on in many things. Beauty does NOT need a huge price tag and I welcome the fact that everyone in my country has access to that opportunity as well. Start with beautifying and uncluttering homes .. and then we get to the cities and urban beautification:))) #ikeaindia #homedecor #interiors #houseproud #homegoods #homeware
